Happy Valentine’s

8 02 2010

This week at I Heart Faces it is a “Kissing” theme.  I thought of this shot right away.  One of my former students asked me to take her wedding pictures.  Once I got over the shock, that she was old enough to marry!, I was thrilled to take on this challenge.

Head on over to their site and check out all the other great kissing photos!

What Crazy, Silly, Funny faces!

Katherine & Ella

One recent afternoon, Ella and Katherine (one of her best buds) asked me to do a photo shoot of them.  They put me on the front porch with my camera and then ran inside to change into different outfits.  We did a “princess” session with a
“cowgirl” twist,  a traditional “princess” theme, then an asian session and finished with a “flower” theme.

The above picture is from the “asian” section (of course!) and they were starting to get a bit loopy.  This one is one of my favorites from the whole group.  I’ve decided to enter it into the I Heart Faces weekly contest.  The theme this week is “Crazy, Silly, Funny Face” – should be a fun week to go look at all the entries.  Go check them out!

Eli

Eli

I was so excited to take photos of my new little nephew, Eli, as soon as he was home from the hospital. Our first attempt ended…poorly. Let’s just say that there was a lot of pee involved. The second attempt – when he was 10 days young – went much better. He was incredibly cooperative except for his feet. He would not keep them tucked inside his blanket. They were just begging to be put in the spotlight.

My favorite thing about this photo is how you can see how new he is by the skin still peeling. This photo is being entered into the I Heart Faces photo contest. Theme: Feet. Go check it out!

True love

Sport (Goldendoodle) and Basie (mutt)

Sport (Goldendoodle) and Basie (mutt)

Our neighbors just moved out of state.  It was sad for all of us.  Harrison’s best buddy was their son, Jack and Ella really became attached to their girl (even though she was much older).  However, I think the greatest bond was between this family’s dog and ours.  Their dog couldn’t be more opposite of ours – light colored, docile, curly haired and thick – but he was Basie’s best pal.  They played for hours at a time.

I really think this photo exemplifies their affection for each other.

I’m submitting this to the I Heart Faces Pet’s photo contest this week.  Go check it out and enter your own animal/pet photo.  It’s painless!

Reflections in DC

Vietnam War Memorial, Washington, D.C.

Vietnam War Memorial, Washington, D.C.

This week’s theme over at I Heart Faces is “Reflection”.  I spent the last three days in Washington for work and only had about three hours to go out and take photos.  I ran right down to the National Mall and got some great shots I’ll be posting soon.  With the theme in mind, I was limited in what I had to work with.  I was struggling until I came upon the Vietnam Memorial.  What an amazing monument!  The picture above is my adult entry.  And the photo below is my kids entry.  I came across this boy touching the monument and was so curious about what he might be thinking.  His mother was behind him talking to him.  I wanted to get a better glimpse of his face,  but the moment seemed way too personal for me to get any closer than I did.  Enjoy more pictures over at the I Heart Faces site!

How to have fun with your kid in a parked car.

Ella and Mommy - Salt Lake City

Ella and Mommy - Salt Lake City

My daughter and I were excited to go to my beautiful friend’s book signing at a local book store.  My friend is a fabulous writer and amazing photographer.  Our entire family is thrilled with all of her success.

The problem, that evening, was that we arrived early.  Really early.  Ella wanted to go in, but I knew that lingering around would only get awkward and tiring in about 5 minutes, so we waited in the car.  I had brought my camera along to take candids of Heather and Jon, but pulled it out early to take some shots of my girl.  She asked if we could pose together and this is what we got.

If you ever want to feel old and decrepit, just take a close up of yourself next to a child with porcelain-like skin.  It’s awesome!

The theme this week at I Heart Faces is “Self Portrait”.  This is my entry in the kids category which required me to be in the picture with a child.  No tripods were allowed.  I had my arm out as far as it would go (thank god the minivan has a deep set windshield!)

Go check some truly beautiful people at the site!
